Social Enquiry "YOUNG AND THE CHURCH"

There was a young and beautiful lady in the name o fTrifozia. This girl was living in the nearest township (36), with her biological parents. The family was Catholic believers and they strongly following and observes the Church’s teachings.

The girl was in a relationship with a boy from Roman Catholic Church and the boy promised not to have sex before marriage as the church teaches. She then found herself in a relationship with a boy of different denomination. With that lad, they really enjoyed spices of life belonging to married people. Unfortunately she got pregnant, and was forced to get married to the boy without following church ceremony.

This forced Trifozia to dump her childhood denomination and joined the presibetarian church. After fifteen years in desert of spiritual life, her twelve year old daughter was supposed to be enrolled to Likuni girls Sec School. By then, a letter from Parish Priest was fundamental principle if one wants to have a place at such a mission school and BUKU LA BANJA LANTHU. After several attempts to convince the Priest but to no avail.  Trifozia and her parents cried foul for the willful mistake they made. The church I saved since I was young betrayed me and now my daughter is at Mwenyekondo CDSS where there is less quality education compared to Likuni girls Sec School. Had I known, I would have made a right choice for my children’s future as well as mine. What a horrible mistake she made and now she’ paying the blame to the church, had she known , would have been strong to her faith and wait for what God planned for her in the future.

 SEE……

What do you think the girl would have done to live positively?

JUDGE…….

What can you say about the girl’s testimony?

ACT………………

What can you do to avoid making the same mistakes in life?

LESSON LEARNT FROM THE STORY

v  What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday and our thoughts of today builds the life of tomorrow and the future ahead of us

v  The church has a great role to play in our daily life and even to the life of our friends, relatives, and the future of the generation to come

v  The church always saves as the master tool for every individual and we should abide with the teachings of the church.

v  The church teaches us that if we are called to priesthood and   sisterhood then you have to be proud with your vocation and as well if you are called to family do what God wants us to do.

YCW CAMPAIGNS FOR HYGEN IN LL CITY

By Clement Blessigs Kanthiti

As the world celebrates world Labour Day on 1st May this year, a group of young Christian workers (YCW) of the Lilongwe Archdiocese organized a dirty free activity in the city of Lilongwe.

The group decided to clean up the city following development of untidiness in the city so as to give a hand to the City Assembly. The group comprised of members of different districts within the Central Region. On the other hand the organization collected money from well wishers which  the group said will assist in other chores of the group.  The organization was led by its president Belvin Manda.

"I am happy to see the turn up of members of the group to assist the charity work which the organization planned," said Manda. The board of the organization was happy to the City Assembly for allowing them to work on behalf of them.

The charity work was started from Lilongwe main mosque alongside Kamuzu Procession road to Maula Cathedral. The organization was working under the theme "every young worker is worth more than gold in the world. The group provides free services and necessities to government institutions and other non-governmental organizations such as hospitals and orphanages. In an interview with chairperson of Mtima Woyera Section Peter Pemba said the group will continue to work in hand with them and assists the less privileged people. On the other hand the Assembly commended the group for assisting them to make sure that the city is kept clean.

Lilongwe Girls Secondary School Outreach Date adjustment.

As Mtima Woyera Section we have an outreach meeting with the Lilongwe Girls Catholic Students which was planned for this coming sunday the 13th May has been changed to be held on Sunday 27th May 2012 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School compass. The reason for the change of the date is that form 1 and 2 students will be living for the mid term holiday on saturday.

We urge all YCW members of Lilongwe Archdiocese  to grace the outreach. As Our Diocesan President said we need to establish a sister relationship with the institution and he said this could be our nursery for YCW Members.

We deeply regret all the inconveniences this change may have coursed.

May the good Lord keep you in good shape.
Mtima Woyera YCW Section Chairperson

MTIMA WOYERA SECTION ANNUAL REPORT 2010

INTRODUCTION

YCW is a Christian movement of young people; young men and women, at work, in study-work situations, unemployed, or casual work aimed at uplifting their spiritual and social life.

The aim of the YCW is to help young men and women reflect and take action themselves in order to gain freedom from what prevents them living with dignity and to bear witness to the presence of God within the world of youths using the methodological approach of ‘SEE, JUDGE, ACT’. For this purpose it helps young people develop as Christian leaders who will take an active role in society and in the Church.

YCW is organized and run at every level (section, zonal, diocesan and international) by young people themselves.

Membership is open to young Christians of above 18years of age, married or not married, at work, in study-work situations, unemployed, or casual work.

YCW AT MTIMA WOYERA

The movement was introduced at Mtima Woyera Parish around mid 1970’s.

And this Annual report is going to summarize Mtima Woyera YCW Section’s performance during the year 2010 in the following areas:

· Membership

· Activities done

· Achievements and Challenges

· Finances

A- MEMBERSHIP PROGRESS

An outstanding success has been achieved in terms of new membership. Number of members has increased from around 24 last year to 35 as of December 2010. Another notable success has been on the two-fold increase of female membership from 4 (year 2009) to 8 (year 2010).

Strategies used

We attribute the membership increase to several strategies that we employed. Below are some of them:

· Announcements of meetings during Church services

· Enrollment ceremony that took place at the beginning of the year

· Fundraising activities within the parish compound

· Distribution of brochures/ leaflets on YCW activities

· Creation of Facebook and website pages on the internet

· ‘Bring a friend’ policies

· Social get-togethers

CONCLUSION

It is a general feeling among the members that this year Mtima Woyera Section has done better compared to last year because most of the planned activities were carried out productively and there was a great team work spirit.

It is our belief that after reflecting what have been our achievements and challenges, strengths and weaknesses, we are going to be in a better position to judge our situation and take action as per our YCW methodical approach to issues of “SEE, JUDGE, and ACT”

THANK YOU

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YCW
